From #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends with Us comes a poignant novel about family, first love, grief, and betrayal that will touch the hearts of both mothers and daughters.Morgan Grant and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Clara, would like nothing more than to be nothing alike.Morgan is determined to prevent her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. By getting pregnant and married way too young, Morgan put her own dreams on…

I have finally decided to finish up on this book it has been on a draft since March. I was sceptical to review it because some of my bookie friends didn’t like the book unlike me I LOVED IT I SOBBED, I think Colleen’s goal is to make her readers ugly cry.

Why I liked the book

We are introduced to characters who are going through development, that time in your life where you have to put yourself first, that’s Morgan’s situation when we get to know her. And with that back story brings forth so much heartache, betrayal but at the same time love and growth.

CoHo doesn’t ambush readers with her writing, she’s articulate she lets things to unfold, she doesn’t manipulate the situation, in short, it doesn’t feel forced, its a rhythm that flows making a book heart-pounding with every chapter. How Colleen brings emotions out of you is impeccable I was angry, hurt I was in love it was an emotional roller coster. Honestly the days I read this book were the longest I could feel Morgan’s pain I carried it like my own. The best part of the book there’s healing as much as the stabbing never seem to end.

What I disliked about the book

Ugh! Please throw away Clara’s POV cause it really got on my nerve, Morgan dealing with a teenager’s tantrums African households would have dealt with Clara’s attitude differently but oh well, Morgan did a good job taming her. The whole reason why I can’t give the book 5 stars but a 4

Fave quotes:

“Right after something tragic happens, you feel like you’ve fallen off a cliff. But after the tragedy starts to sink in, you realize you didn’t fall off a cliff. You’re on an eternal roller coaster that just reached the bottom. Now it’s gonna be up and down and upside down for a long, long time. Maybe even forever.”

“It means people who make mistakes usually learn from them. That doesn’t make them hypocrites. It makes them experienced.”

“Heartbreak builds character.”
